Welcome to Spring

The days are getting longer, the flowers are beginning to bloom, and there’s a definite feeling of new beginnings in the air. We hope you’re enjoying the lighter evenings and taking time to appreciate the signs of the season all around us.

Here’s a round-up of village news, events, and a few things we could use your help with. As always, if you have something to share, just get in touch.

Thank you

A huge thank you to Elaine and Mike Crabb for all their help with the village green. Your time, energy, and care haven’t gone unnoticed – the village looks better already.

RHS It’s Your Neighbourhood

We’re getting involved again this year with a red, white, and blue planting theme, and we need green-fingered folk (or enthusiastic amateurs) to join in.

Sunflower Competition. Get your seeds in now. Prize for the most perfect sunflower. Judging in August, dependent on the weather.

There will be a pop-up plant swap stall in late Spring. Details coming soon.

Interested? Get in touch with a member of the gardening group* for more details.

Liskeard Show

We’re collecting for the Liskeard Show tombola, and we need bottles – wine, squash, shampoo, bubble bath – anything sealed, in date, and unopened.

Please drop them off to Fiona Montague at Oak Lodge.

Photography Competition

We’re looking for local photos that capture the seasons, the scenery, and the spirit of the village. Whether it’s frosty mornings, summer blooms, pets being daft, or dramatic skies – send your entries in to Jane Sandford at secretary@mapgra.org

Winners will be featured in the 2026 calendar. Fame awaits!

There’s no such thing as the Dog Poo Fairy!

This is a gentle reminder to please pick up after your dog and help keep our village spaces clean and safe for everyone.

We understand that some residents may find it physically difficult to do this – if that’s the case, please don’t worry. You can contact someone from the Residents’ Association, and we’ll do our best to find a way to support you.

Please don’t fly tip

A quick but important reminder – household rubbish should not be dumped by public bins, in hedges or lay-bys. It’s not only unsightly, it’s illegal. We’ve had a few recent instances, and frankly, the wildlife is making it worse. If you need help disposing of household rubbish, let us know and we’ll try to signpost you to the right service.

Lights out, Stars on

The streetlights will now be switched off between 12 midnight and 5am. This is not a power cut – it’s planned. Stargazers, rejoice! Enjoy the dark skies, spot a planet or two, and maybe even wish on a shooting star.
